I have been teaching violin and viola in New York City and Westchester for the past 20 years. In my teaching, I focus on developing a solid technical foundation where students can express themselves with freedom and ease.
My goal for each student is that they enjoy the learning process and feel successful and confident. In addition to learning solo pieces, I prepare my students to successfully audition for NYSSMA, New York Youth Symphony, GWYO, competitions and major conservatory entrance auditions. My students perform in two recitals each year as well as taking part in fun opportunities such as master classes with top rated artists or Bach in the Subway to celebrate Bach’s birthday each year. In recent years, my students have achieved perfect scores at NYSSMA, been accepted into the NY Youth Symphony, GWYO, Manhattan School precollege, won prizes at local competitions, and successfully auditioned for music programs such as Oberlin, Univ. of Arizona, Manhattan School of Music.
I received my B.M. From the Manhattan School of Music, and also studied at the University of Minnesota and in my home country of Iceland. I am a member of the American Ballet Theater Orchestra and the American Symphony Orchestra as well as being an active NYC freelance musician. I accept students who are beginners up through high school where I teach both traditional and Suzuki methods. Lesson are 30, 45 or 60 minutes in length based on the level and age of the student.
